Anyone ever use Lowe's or Home Depot to do a bathroom or kitchen renovation in your home? How'd it go? Just curious if their pricing, quality of work, etc, was on par with independent contractors. I'm trying not to get burnt by a contractor and am imagining that going with one of those stores would limit my risk. Archived post.
They generally are going to buy the cheap s*** at Home Depot. Structure the deal so you purchase the tile and grout, fixtures, accessories; the GC only provides labor and building materials (drywall, wood studs and blocking, etc.). The one thing about the price point is that Home Depot will still be around if say, your bathroom floods from an install.

Home Depot or Lowe's good at renovating? Any experiences? I've heard bad things about their renovation services. EDIT: thank you all for your responses! A lot of horror stories here, so I think I'll just stick to them delivering and installing basic kitchen appliances (which they also subcontract out elsewhere, if I remember properly).
